Canada The people of Canada originally come from Indigenous nations such as the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. Later, European settlers from France and Britain arrived and built modern Canada. Today, Canada is a multicultural country with many ethnic groups. The largest groups are English and French Canadians, followed by people of Scottish, Irish, German, Italian, Chinese, Indian, and Ukrainian origin. Indigenous peoples still form an important part of the nation’s identity. Canada’s population is about 41 million people. Most Canadians live in large cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, but the country is also known for its wide open spaces and natural beauty.
