1. Read a student’s answer to a Writing Part 2 task (story) and answer the questions.

1. Does the story have a good beginning, middle and ending?
Beginning: Yes. We learn about Jennifer’s problem.
Middle: Yes. Jennifer thinks about what to do and has an idea.
Ending: No. The story stops when she gets her sewing box. We don’t know what happens next.
2. Notes for the ending
Jennifer adds some colourful buttons and a small pocket. She finishes the sweater and tries it on. She really likes her new sweater. Her sister sees it and is happy. Jennifer thanks her sister for the present. Jennifer decides to wear it to school the next day.
3. Which of these endings to the story do you think is better? Why?
The first ending is better because it ties in with the beginning of the story, which mentions both Jennifer and her sister.
