Dear MrsHaster, I appreciate that you have decided to share your ideas on the important issue of young people behaviour. You have asked a few questions that I am going to answer now. First, you ask what parents are to do. I believe parents do not have to choose between being liberal or authoritarian. Instead, they should find ways to stay connected with their teen and overcome problems together. Specifically, parents should be able to listen without judging, mocking, interrupting, criticizing, or offering advice. Another question you ask is if parents should try to stop their teenagers having s.ex or encourage safe se.x. In my opinion, this should be decided by parents themselves. On the one hand, it is important for parents to let their child know she or he is valued and loved, and this love is unconditional. On the other hand, rules should be set, such as dating rules, house rules, consequences of breaking rules. We have published a series of articles about young people in order to attract public attention to the problem, and your letter shows that we are on the right way. We are open to discussion.
