Robots in medicine
There have been robots in medicine for over 30 years, but we know that their use (1) is going to become even more advanced. Let’s speak to three experts about their predictions.
The nurse
Interviewer: Dan, you’re a nurse in the countryside. What effect (2) will robots have on your village?
Dan: Good question! With the arrival of digital technologies and also artificial intelligence, there (3) are going to be huge changes – I can see them now! In a not–too–distant future, I think a robot nurse (4) will visit patients in areas which are difficult to reach. They (5) will take the patient’s temperature and other details, and send this information back to us. It sounds like science fiction, I know! But we (6) will be able to help so many more people.
The GP*
Interviewer: Annie, you’re a GP. What are your thoughts on robots?
Annie: Well, I (7) will explain. I work in a busy health centre. A lot of people come to the centre every day and they usually have to wait a long time to see me. They’ve often got common illnesses like colds or flu or some of them have injured themselves.
Interviewer: And you hope that robots (8) will help with the queues.
Annie: That’s right. We know robots (9) are going to be able to meet patients, ask the right questions and send us reports.
Interviewer: And then I imagine doctors (10) will not need to speak to their patients at all!
Annie: Definitely not! I think we (11) will have to read the robot’s report and see the patient, but it (12) will save a lot of time.
The surgeon
Interviewer: And finally, Lee. You’re a surgeon, right. Tell us what you think.
Lee: Sure! We already use robots for operations, but I’ve seen the next generation. They (13) are going to be incredible. We believe that with these robots, patients (14) will get better much more quickly, and they (15) will leave hospital sooner.
Interviewer: That’s amazing news!
Lee: Isn’t it?
