African elephants live in forests and grasslands in 37 countries in Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. They eat leaves, grass and fruit. Adults weigh between 2,268 kg and 6,350 kg and live until around 70. Females have one baby every two to four years. There are around 470,000 to 690,000 wild African elephants today.
