5. A. Do a project on the telephone. Do research to answer some of the questions in the Writing section at the back of the book. Write a few short paragraphs.

The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. The first words were “Mr. Watson, come here.” Early phones had wires and looked very different. The first mobile phone was made in 1973 — it was big and heavy. Today’s smartphones are small and do many things. Landlines use wires, mobiles don’t. In my country, phone numbers have nine digits. The emergency number is 112. The phone is a useful invention because it helps people stay in touch.
