5. Put the verbs in brackets into the Past Indefinite or the Past Perfect.

My friend said he had been busy all the day. He could not come to us before as he was packing his things. He was leaving the next day and everything had to be ready. When he had finished packing, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to put his toothbrush in. Then he unpacked the bag and found that he had packed not his toothbrush, but his mother’s. He laughed at the mistake and corrected it. When everything was ready, he suddenly saw his tie hanging on the back of a chair. He had forgotten to pack it too. Now he became afraid that he had left something he needed. So he sat down and made a list of things that he had packed for the trip. He understood that he had left nothing behind.
