12–point scale (1–12), 4 is passing; university sometimes uses 5–point.

Primary (5–11), Secondary (11–16), Post–16 (16–18);

GCSEs at 16; A–Levels or equivalents at 18;

English; Welsh/Gaelic in certain areas;

Three terms per year with breaks between;

GCSE/A–Level letter grades (A*–G, A*–E).
