Complete the text with the Past Simple or the Past Progressive of the verbs in brackets.

Last summer, my grandparents (1) visited us at our home in the countryside, and my parents (2) decided to take us all for a picnic at a lake nearby. My grandparents (3) weren't excited about the picnic, but as soon as we (4) arrived at the lake they (5) kept saying: 'We (6) did not know about this place. It's lovely!' As we (7) were looking at the lake, we (8) did not see that our car (9) was moving slowly down towards it! We (10) reached it just a metre before the lake!
